Welcome 👋

Welcome to the CometChat Developer Documentation!

New to CometChat?

Check out our Documentation which includes non-technical guides for popular integrations like WordPress and BuddyPress.

Here you'll find everything you need to install CometChat – whether you're adding CometChat for the first time, or you're customizing CometChat for your specific needs.

Before you proceed

You need access to the CometChat Admin Panel to proceed with this guide. In another browser window, log in to the CometChat Admin Panel or signup for a free trial to proceed.

Once you login, note the App ID, API Key and License Key from the CometChat Admin Panel -> Settings -> API Key.

Navigating the documentation

To make it easier for you, here is the optimum way to traverse our documentation:

Step 1. Select the Platform

CometChat supports multiple platforms; so begin by deciding which platform you want to add CometChat to! We have guides for Web, Android, iOS, Ionic, Cordova and Xamarin.

If you are planning to add CometChat to both- your website and mobile apps, then consider beginning with our Web guide.

Step 2. View the Quick Start guide

Begin by viewing the Quick Start guide for that platform. This guide will help you get your feet wet by quickly allowing you to build a proof of concept. Typically, this should take 5-10 minutes.

Step 3. Deep Dive

Once you've mastered the Quick Start guide, check the other guides to customize CometChat further.

Step 4. Move on to other platforms

It's never enough to add CometChat to just a single platform. Once you've added chat to one, explore other platforms. It will be much easier this time around, as you've already done a similar implementation once!
